찌든 도심을 떠나 녹색이 반기는 숲으로 가고 싶다고 생각해보지만 몇 시간씩 힘들게 숲이 있는 지방으로 찾아가야 한다는 것은 생각만큼 쉽지 않다. 하지만 치유의 숲은 지하철로 갈 수 있는 곳이다. 서울대공원 안에 위치한 치유의 숲은 지하철 4호선 대공원역에서 하차한 다음 코끼리 열차를 타고 동물원역에서 내려 국립 현대미술관 조각공원 입구의 마중 숲길에서부터 시작된다. 놀이기구가 즐비한 서울대공원과 마주하고 있지만 마중 숲길에 들어서는 순간 세상과는 격리된 깊은 산속으로 초대된 듯하다. 서울대공원 안에 이런 비밀의 공간을 숨겨 놓았을 줄이야.
