눈에 넣어도 아프지 않다= to be the apple of one’s eye (lit. even if you put it in your eye it doesn’t hurt)

아이들은 그 나이 때 정말 귀여워서 눈에 넣어도 아프지 않아요 = Kids at that age are so cute that they are the apple of your eye.)

눈에 띄다 = to be difficult to miss; to stand out; eye-catching (띄다 = to be spotted)

눈에 띄는 패션 = eye-catching fashion
한국어 어떻게 공부해요? 실력이 눈에 띄게 늘었어요 = How do you study Korean? Your Korean skills have improved so much! (It’s impressive) 

눈을 마주치다 = eyes meet (마주치다 = to run into; to bump into)

그 사람하고 눈이 마주쳤는데, 창피해서 고개를 돌렸어요 = My eyes met with his, and I felt embarrassed so I looked away.

눈이 멀다 = to be blinded by something

그 사람은 욕심에 눈이 멀었어요 = He is blinded by his greed.

눈이 부시다 = to be dazzling

눈이 부시게 아름다워요 = Your beauty is dazzling.

눈 하나 깜짝하지 않다 = to not bat an eye (하나 = one, 깜짝하다 = to blink) 

그 사람은 그런 말을 들어도 눈 하나 깜짝하지 않을 거예요 = Even if you tell him that, he wouldn’t bat an eye

눈 깜짝할 사이에 = in the blink of an eye

Noun ~(이)라는 것 = the thing called ____ is, what I call ___ is, (I think that)

우정이라는 것은… = (In my opinion, the nature of) Friendship is…

Verb ~(ㄴ/는)다는 것 = the act of ___, the thing that is called ____ used to express what you think the definition or the nature of a certain action/state/verb

배운다는 것은 언제나 즐거운 일이에요 = Learning is always a pleasant thing to do.
외국에 산다는 것은 가끔 힘들 때도 있어요. = The nature of living overseas is that there are sometimes hard times.
혼자 공부한다는 것은 생각만큼 쉽지 않아요 = Studying alone is not as easy as you think.
주말에도 회사에 가야 한다는 건 정말 슬픈 일이에요 = Having to go to work on the weekend is so sad.
아이를 키운다는 건 참 힘든 일이에요 = Raising a child is very tough.
한국에서 유명한 가수가 된다는 건 정말 어려운 일이에요 = Becoming a famous singer in Korea is a very difficult thing.
장학금을 받는다는 것은 정말 대단한 일이에요 = Receiving scholarship is (an) amazing (achievement)

눈이 높다 = to be picky, have high standards (lit. your eyes are high)

저 눈 안 높아요. 저는 그냥 성격 좋은 사람이면 다 좋아요 = I’m not picky. Anyone who has a good personality is fine for me

눈 밖에 나다 = to get on someone’s bad side (lit. get outside of their eyes/sight)

저는 지각을 많이 해서, 선생님 눈 밖에 났어요 = I am frequently late, so my teacher doesn’t like me.

눈을 붙이다 = to get some sleep (lit. glue your eyelids shut)

피곤하면 눈 좀 붙여요. 나중에 깨워 줄게요 = If you are tired, get some sleep. I’ll wake you up later.

눈빛만 봐도 알 수 있다 = can know just from looking at your eyes 

말 안 해도, 눈빛만 봐도 알 수 있어요 = Even if you don’t say it, I can tell just by looking at your eyes.

눈 앞이 캄캄하다 = to not know where to start; to have no hope (lit. it’s dark in front of my eyes)

눈 앞이 캄캄했었는데, 석진 씨가 도와줬어요 = I was in panic because I didn’t know how to solve the problem, but 석진 helped me.

눈썰미가 좋다 = to learn things quickly (눈썰미 = the ability to learn or understand how something is done just by watching someone else) 

한 번만 보고 어떻게 따라해요? 눈썰미가 좋으시네요 = How do you follow the moves just by looking at them once? You pick up things very fast!

As long as

~기만 하면 = if you only do..

여기에 있기만 하면 괜찮아요 = As long you are here, you’re fine.
재미있게 공부하기만 하면, 한국어 잘할 수 있어요 = As long as you study Korean in a fun way, you can become good at Korean
비밀을 지키기만 하면 안전해요 = As long as you keep the secret, you’re safe.
음식이 맛있고 직원이 친절하기만 하면, 식당은 언젠가 유명해져요 = As long as the food is good and the staff are kind, a restaurant will get famous one day.

~(느)ㄴ 한 = within the boundaries where you do.. (very formal not common in conversation)

제가 열쇠를 가지고 있는 한, 아무도 못 들어가요 = As long as I have the keys, no one can go in
살아있는 한, 저는 계속 공부를 할 거예요 = As long as I am alive, I will keep studying.

~지만 않으면 = only if you don’t do.. 

너무 춥지만 않으면 갈게요 = As long as it’s not too cold, I will go.
사람들이 너무 많이 오지만 않으면 괜찮아요 = As long as not too many people come here, it’s okay.
깨지지만 않으면, 계속 쓸 수 있어요 = As long as it’s not broken, you can keep using it.

~ㄴ/은/는 데다가 = on top of, in addition to

(데 = a place/spot (아픈 데 = place that hurts) ~(에)다가 = toward, adding to, to this place (여기에다가 놓으세요 = put it over here. 집에다가 두고 왔어요 = I left it at home.))

석진 씨는 잘생긴 데다가 키도 커요 = In addition to being handsome, Seokjin is also tall.
효진 씨는 똑똑한 데다가 공부도 열심히 해요 = In addition to being smart, Hyojin studies hard too.
경은 씨는 예쁜 데다가 성격도 좋아요 = In addition to being pretty, Kyeong-eun also has a nice personality.
이 식당은 시끄러운 데다가 맛도 없어요 = In addition to being noisy, this restaurant’s food is also not good.
경화 씨는 친구가 많은 데다가 하는 일도 많아서 만나기 어려워요 = In addition to having a lot of friends, Kyung-hwa also does lots of things, so it’s difficult tomeet her

Noun~이/가 아니라 = negation, not a ____ but a_____

그 사람은 학생이 아니라 선생님이에요 = That person is not a student, he is a teacher
저는 선생님이 아니라 학생을 도와주는 사람이에요 = I’m not a teacher, I’m a student helper
그 것은 음식이 아니라 쓰레기예요 = That isn’t food, it is garbage
가장 맛있는 한식은 김치가 아니라 삼겹살이에요 = The most delicious Korean food isn’t Kimchi, it is 삼겹살
그게 아니라 나는 너를 그냥 보고 싶어 = It’s not that, I just want to see you
그게 아니라 저는 돈을 벌어 야 돼요 = It’s not that, I just need to earn money

Verb ~는 게 아니라

저는 밥을 먹는 게 아니라 공부하고 있어요 = I’m not eating, I’m studying
그 여자는 예쁜 게 아니라 못생겼어요 = That girl isn’t pretty, she is ugly
제가 한국에 가고 싶은 이유는 일하고 싶은 게 아니라 한국말을 배우고 싶기 때문이에요 = The reason I want to go to Korea is not to work, but to learn Korean
제가 그 사람을 싫어하는 게 아니라 우리는 그냥 잘 어울리지 못해요 = It’s not that I don’t like that person, we just don’t get along
