을왕리 해수욕장 | Eurwangni Beach

바다 옆에서 사람들이 불꽃을 쏴올리고 있었는데 아주 놀랐어요. 확실하지 않지만 영국에서는 공공장소에서 불꽃을 쏴올리는 게 불법인 것 같아요. 아무튼 그런 상황은 처음 봤어요. 사실 불꽃이 사람들이 쉬는 곳과 아주 가깝고 불꽃이 많아서 저는 이거 위험하지 않을까 좀 걱정했어요. 그래도 정말 재미있는 관경이었고 우리도 몇 개 사서 쏴올렸어요….

I was really surprised to see people were setting off fireworks all along the beach. I’m not certain but I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to set off fireworks in public places in the UK? At least, I had never seen a sight like that. Honestly it was kinda scary to have that many fireworks going off so close to people, it seemed pretty dangerous. But still it was a fun experience and we also bought a couple of our own to set off…

일요일 아침에 일어나서 해변에서 쉬었다가 수영하러 갔어요. 물을 들어가는 순간에 한국 바다의 매력에 빠졌어요. 서해가 이런데 동해는 얼마나 좋을까요? 수없이 가 봤던 영국 해변에서 한번도 느껴보지 못 한 따뜻한 물…

On Sunday morning we got up and went to go swimming and rest on the beach. I fell in love with the Korean ocean as soon as I touched the water. If this is the West sea, how good is the East sea?! I’ve swam in the ocean a lot in the UK, but never felt warm water like that….

토요일 아침에 우리가 차 내비게이션으로 목적지 검색하고 출발했어요. 차가 많이 막혀서 인천에 가는 데 오래 걸렸지만 바다 보였을 때는 기분이 좋았어요. ‘곧 다리를 건너겠구나’라고 얘기했는데 다리는 없었어요. 대체 어디서 다리 놓쳤을까 얘기했는데 알고 보니 내비게이션에 길을 잘 못 찍어서 카페리를 타는 길을 골랐다는 걸 깨달았어요….

On Saturday morning we put the address into the navigation and set off in the car. The roads were busy so it took a long time to get in Incheon but it felt good to finally reach the ocean. We talked about how we must be coming up to the bridge across the channel, but there was no bridge in sight. Wondering how we could possibly have missed the enormous bridge we realised that we had set the navigation wrong…

을왕리 해수욕장 | Eurwangni Beach

도착해서 1시간이나 해변을 산책하면서 일몰을 봤어요. 수영하기엔 너무 추웠지만 바다도 하늘도 너무 예뻐서 다음날도 또 놀고싶었어요. 많은 사람들이 텐트를 세우고 고기를 구워 먹고 있었어요. 맛있는 냄새가 나서 우리도 밥 먹으러 가자고 했어요. 먹을 것 사러 마트 들렀다가 펜션에 갔어요…

When we arrived we walked along the beach for an hour or so and watched the sunset. It was too cold to swim then, but the sea and sky looked beautiful so we got excited about visiting again the next day. Lots of people had set up tents and were barbecuing on the beach. It looked delicious, so we decided to go get dinner ourselves…

영국 해수욕장과 캠핑 | East Prawle & Gara Rock Beach

제가 전날에 영국으로 돌아와서 시차에 아직 적응하지 못했어요. 그래도 2년만에 만난 우리 작은 오빠가 캠핑 가자고 했을 때 제가 거질 할 수 없었어요. 작음 오빠는 남아메리카에서 살아서 자주 보기 힘들고 추억을 만들고 싶었거든요. 제가 영국에 도착해서 런던에서 비행기 내려왔을 때도 날씨가 좋은 것 많이 놀랐는데 주말내내 날씨 엄청 덥고 좋았어요.

I had only returned to the UK the previous day so I was still jet-lagged, but I couldn’t say no when my brother who I hadn’t seen in 2 years invited me camping. He lives in South America so it’s hard for us to meet and I wanted to spend time with him. When I first arrived and got off the plane in London I was very shocked to see the weather was so nice, but it stayed nice and hot that entire weekend.

[최저임금 후폭풍]1988년 도입된 최저임금 변천사…462원→7530원 ’16배’

Article about the recent minimum wage increase, I would say that this is an advanced read.

2018년 시간당 최저임금이 7530원으로 결정되면서 문재인 정부의 공약인 2020년 최저임금 1만원 시대가 결국 현실화될 것으로 보인다.

17일 최저임금위원회에 따르면 심의 연장 마지막 날을 하루 앞둔 15일 밤 내년도 시간당 최저임금이 7530원으로 확정됐다. 월급 기준으로는 157만3770원이다. 인상액 1060원은 역대 최대 규모이며 인상률 16.4%는 16.8%를 기록한 2001년 이후 최대 폭이다. 2010년 이후 인상률이 2.75∼8.1%인 점을 감안하면 이번 두 자릿수 인상은 ‘파격’으로 받아들여진다. 내년과 후년에도 이런 폭으로 인상하면 최저임금 1만원 달성이 무난하다.

Long article about women with alcoholism. It’s an interesting read about an issue that is not very talked about, especially not in Korea.

“항상 ‘한 잔만’으로 시작해요. 정신을 차리면 술병이 수없이 나뒹굴고 있죠. 자괴감을 잊으려 또 술을 찾고….”

자신의 음주 경험을 털어놓던 40대 여성이 목이 잠긴 듯 말을 잇지 못했다. 4일 경기 부천시 원미구의 여성 알코올질환 전문 W진병원 세미나실에 둘러앉은 입원 환자 8명은 중독에 이르게 된 각자의 과정을 이야기했다. 처음엔 팔짱을 낀 채 메모지에 낙서를 하던 환자도 어느새 동료의 말을 경청하며 고개를 끄덕이고 있었다.

정신건강의학과 전문의들은 “여성 알코올질환자는 남성과 달리 수차례 입원과 퇴원을 반복해도 스스로 증상을 인정하지 않는 경우가 흔하다”며 “자신의 상태를 정확히 인식하고 남성과는 확연히 다른 중독의 양상을 파악하는 게 치료의 첫걸음”이라고 조언했다.
