내가 그의 이름을 불러 주기 전에는
그는 다만
하나의 몸짓에 지나지 않았다.

내가 그의 이름을 불러 주었을 때,
그는 나에게로 와서
꽃이 되었다.

다만 = only, just
~에 지나지 않다 = no more than, only, just
빛깔 = colour
잊혀지다 = to be forgotten

막 = Just, intensely

영화가 막 시작되었다 = The movie has just started.
막 아침 식사를 하려고 하는데 전화벨이 울렸다 = Just as I was going to have breakfast, the telephone rang.
그는 아랫사람을 너무 막 다룬다 = He treats those under him too harshly.
비가 막 쏟아지고 있다 = It’s raining very hard.

~(으)ㄹ 따름이다 = only, just 

somewhat formal, expressing hope or regret, such as “I only did what he told me, but …” or “we can only wait for the result now.” Same meaning as 뿐입니다 but more formal

따름이다 (Past Tense)

기다릴 따름입니다 = I can only wait.
말해 줬을 따름입니다 = I did nothing but tell them about it.

제가 이 상을 받을 수 있게 도와 주신 모든 분들께 감사할 따름입니다 = I’m just grateful to everybody who helped me receive this award.
정말 놀라울 따름입니다 = All I can say is that I’m surprised.
저는 해야 할 일을 했을 따름입니다 = I just did what I had to do.
이런 일이 생겨서, 저희는 정말 당황스러울 따름입니다 = We are just really embarrassed that something like this happened.

글쎄(요) – well, hmm, let me see 

글쎄, 없는데. 약속이 있거든 = Well, no. I’ve got an appointment.
글쎄, 지금 말하고 싶지 않아요 = Well, I’d rather not say right now.
글쎄, 내가 너라면 그렇게 하지 않을거야 = Well, I wouldn’t if I were you.
글쎄, 그에게 줄 아무 것도 사지 않았어 = Well , I didn’t buy anything for him.
글쎄 내주까지 기다릴까 = Well, shall we wait until next week?
글쎄 그럼 돈이 얼마 더 필요하니? = Well, then, how much more money will you need?
글쎄요, 그건 확실히 모르겠어요 = Well, I’m not sure about that.

(제 생각엔 그가 사직해야 할 거예요) 글쎄요 = (I think he should resign.) Maybe. 
글쎄요. 시간이 많지 않아서요 = I’m not sure. I don’t have much time.

글쎄 해만 보라구 = Just try it.
글쎄 조용히 하라구 = Please be quiet!
