Why am I still making this mistake? I can’t believe I’m revising stuff from level one but:
~에 = at
(있다/없다/살다/~고 있다/~을 수 있다/많다), to (가다/오다) ~에서 = at (other verbs), from
(가다/오다)
한국에 왔어요 = I came to Korea. 대만에 살고 있어요 = I’m living in Taiwan.
영국에서 왔어요 = I am from the UK.
어디서 오셨나요? = Where are you from?
집에서 일해요 = I work at home. 서울역에서 만나요 = Let’s meet at Seoul Station. 스타벅스에서 만나자! = Let’s meet at Starbucks!
그들은 한국에서 유명하다 = They are famous in Korea.
~에 여행가다 = travel to ~에서 여행하다 = travel in ~에 도착하다 = arrive at ~에서 출발하다 = depart from 중에= during (time) 중에서 = among (nouns) 지난 주에, 다음 주에, 오전에, 오후에
간 = Time period, for, during
이건 몇년간 연습한 결과입니다 = This takes years of practice. 저는 지난 3년간 서울에서 살았습니다 = I’ve been living in Seoul for 3 years. 일주일간 머물다 = Stay for a week 그를 몇 달간 만나지 못했다 = I have not seen him in months.
중국의 춘절은 15일간의 공휴일이다 = The Chinese New Year is a 15-day holiday.
The space between, among
우리는 로마와 파리 간을 매일 두 차례 운항한다 = We fly between Rome and Paris twice daily.
두 사물 간의 차이 = a difference between two things
부모 자식 간에도 예의는 지켜야 한다 = Even in a parent-child relationship, there needs to be mutual respect. 직원들 간의 버스 이용이 잦아졌다 = Bus use is increasing among the staff. 어떤 가정도 가족 간의 화합 없이는 행복할 수 없다 = No family can be happy without harmony among its members.
누구든 간에 = Who/whomever (out of anyone)
어떻든 간에 = Whatever it is 일어나든지 간에 = Whatever happens
여름방학 동안 – during summer vacation 침묵이 한참 동안 계속되었다 – The silence continued for a long time. 제가 얼마 동안 입원해야 하나요? – How long do I have to stay in the hospital? 얼마 동안 – how long 저 없는 동안 우리 아이 좀 봐 주세요 – Please take care of my child while I’m gone[out]
아직 – still or not yet
아직 10시예요 – it’s still 10o’clock 아직 안 했어요 – I haven’t done it yet 아직 아침이에요 – it’s still morning 아직 몰라요 – I don’t know yet
아직도 for emphasis ((also) still happening)
아직도 몰라요? – You still don’t know? 아직도 안 왔어요? – He’s not here yet? 네, 아직도 안 왔어요. – No, he’s still not here.
벌써, 이미 – already
벌써 세 시에요 – it’s already 3 o’clock 세 시에요, 벌써 – it’s 3 o’clock, already 벌써 왔어요? – oh, you’re already here? 벌써 끝났어요? – is it already over? did it already finish?
use 이미 when you are already aware of and talking about something. use 벌써 when you are just finding out about something
그 사람은 이미 하교를 졸업했어요. – he already graduated from school. (you have both known about this fact for a long time prior to the conversation. 그 사람은 벌써 하교를 졸업했어요 – (you have found it out recently, or you know about and the other person doesn’t)
다시 – again
다시 한 번 해 볼게요 – I’ll try once more 다시는 거기에 안 갈 거야 – I’ll never go there again. 다시 한 번 말씀해 주시겠어요? – Would you please repeat that?
또 – again, once more
나중에 또 봐요 – I’ll see you again later 또 시험에 떨어졌어요 – I failed the test again.
미리 – beforehand, in advance, ahead of time
미리 계획을 세우다 – plan ahead 미리 계획을 세우다 – plan in advance 미리 알려 주다 – let know beforehand 늦어지면 미리 연락해 주세요 – Call ahead if you’re delayed. 당신에게 미리 얘기를 못했어요 – I didn’t get a chance to tell you earlier
먼저 – first, earlier, before, beforehand, in advance
먼저 가십시오 – Please go first. 내가 그보다 먼저 왔다 – I came earlier than he did. 저 먼저 씻어도 될까요? – Can I wash up first?
쯤 – approximately, about, around
한 시쯤 – around 1 o’clock 천 원쯤 – about 1,000 won 한 달쯤 – approximately one month 4킬로미터 쯤 – about 4km
정도, 약
한 달 정도 – about a month 약 한 달 – about a month 약 한 달쯤 – about a month 약 한 달 정도 – about a month
100명쯤 왔어요 – about 100 people came 독일에서 2년쯤 살았어요 – I lived in germany for about two years. 언제쯤 갈 거예요? – approximately when are you going to go? 내일 몇 시쯤 만날까요? – around what time shall we meet tomorrow? 다섯 시쯤 어때요? – how about around 5 o’clock?
