Hi, check my page study-korean.tumblr.com/tagged/resources to see every resource I know haha. Especially if you scroll down to the older posts there will be more for beginners there. If you check there you can also find I’ve answered questions about what resources I used to learn (ttmik, howtostudykorean, etc. etc.) which go into detail about resources for beginners. Let me know if you can’t find those posts I will take a lot for you. 🙂
Enjoy your studying!

thank you for runnin this blog, you are amazing ♥ btw could u help me understand what does this world mean? ”됨” i think it has something to do with 되다 but i dont understand why its shorted like that. Thank you ♥♥

Hi, thank you so much for the love!
❤ “됨” is “되다” conjugated with “~(으)ㅁ”, which is a neutral-formality sentence ending. It’s used for things like memos, annotations, totally neutral words (like “읽음” for “read” on messages), and people sometimes use it when they’re texting with friends for a kind of super casual/neutral/narrative feeling. So you might see people sending messages like “—해야 됨”, “—없음”, “—안됨”, “—못 함”. Hope this helps^^

Hello, do you have any advice for a poor high-schooler that really wants to learn korean but can’t find time nor books to study?

Hi! I was in the same position when I first started :). Luckily there are a lot of free, high-quality online resources available. Check my blog /tagged/resources, you’ll see that I mostly used the sites TalkToMeInKorean and HowToStudyKorean. The TTMIK audio lessons are around 10 minutes long, so when I didn’t have much time to study I tried to just listen to one lesson a day or one day listen/one day revise.
Try to study little and often, that can sometimes be more effective anyway. Study when you’re commuting, or whenever you have a spare 10-30 minutes. You can also study in more passive ways when you don’t have time to sit down and work through a book: message friends, read articles, listen to songs. I always focused on doing things I enjoyed, which meant it didn’t really feel like studying and I was able to do it in my downtime whilst I resting from school studies and didn’t feel like I was over-doing it.
Overall just do what you can when you have time, study things you enjoy and find interesting, and know that there are a million resources to provide an alternative to expensive books or classes. I hope you find this helpful, good luck with your Korean and high school studies!

Hello! I wanted to see if you could give me an advice… rn I’m on the advanced level (when it comes down to grammar, mostly)but since i didnt pay much attention to vocab, im somewhat behind on that matter. But my problem is that sometimes it’s difficult for me to either translate or grasp completely certain sentences, and i dont know what to do to get better at it. Do you have any advice? Thank you in advance, and have a nice day!

Hi, I’m kind of in the same position as you! Learning grammar is fun and memorising vocab is boring.. I am finding that reading as much as possible really helps broaden my vocab, because I can practice the words in context. I also try to challenge myself to learn vocab for and talk about topics that I don’t usually talk about in my daily life when doing language exchange, that words stick better the more I use them. I hope this helps a little, and if anyone else has any advice for this I would appreciate it as well! Thank you for your question 🙂

💬 Coolest thing about your target language?
The coolest thing is Korean grammar. The way grammar expresses meaning and the sheer number of sentence endings and conjugations which have subtle differences in meaning. 한글 is also really cool. I also love how sino-Korean words form meaning through combinations of characters, but I guess that’s more of a cool thing about Chinese haha.

📚, 🎼 and ⭐️?

📚 Have you ever read a book in your target language?
I have read 미움 받을 용기 1 & 2, a bunch of children’s and YA books, and I’m currently reading 지적 대화를 위한 넓고 얕은 지식 very slowly. I want to read more but can’t find the time. 😦

🎼 Who is your favorite singer in your target language?
Currently Dean, I only really listen to hip-hop.

⭐️ What inspires you to learn languages?
Living in Korea inspires me! I also just find it incredibly fun and rewarding, I love the feeling when I something I didn’t understand before suddenly fits into place.

thanks for asking!

So I’ve been studying 2 languages Spanish and Korean for about a year and I feel like a neglect Korean and I’m still at a beginner level and every Time I try to go back to my Korean study books I feel lost and can’t remember what I know and don’t know . So if you could help me with some advice to place or have any advice for me

Hi! I’ve never studied two languages at once so I’m not sure how well I can advise you, but I know there are lots of tips online and on language blogs about studying multiple languages. Probably even a few langblrs about studying both Korean and Spanish, so look those up. It sounds like you just need to be a bit more consistent with your Korean studies so you don’t forget things. I would usually recommend a ‘little and often’ approach to studying, so try to get some Korean in every day/every other day/every week etc. even if it’s only something really small. If your Spanish is at a higher level you could try learning Korean through Spanish so you can practice both, or every time you study Spanish you could learn a bit of Korean on the same topic.

If anyone else has more advice on learning multiple languages please let us know!
