Both 동아리 and 동우회/동호회 refer to meetings for people with the same interest, hobby, objective, views etc.

However, 동아리 usually refers to university clubs, while 동우회/동호회 is used to refer to meetings for people in general. 

~을/를 향상시키다 = to improve (something)
향상 (n.) improvement + 시키다 (v.) to make

나는 내 프랑스어 실력을 향상시켜야 한다. | I need to improve my French (ability).
간호원의 직업적 지위를 향상시키다. | Improve the status of the nursing profession.
