대안공간 눈 & 행궁동 벽화마을

왠지 수원에서 미술관을 찾기 어려워요. 지동 벽화마을에 간 다음에 행궁동 벽화마을에 있는 대안공간 눈(Alternative Space Noon) 전시관을 잠깐 방문했어요. 예쁘게 꾸며진 건물에서 작은 전시실 4개 있어서 크지 않아도 다양한 미술 스타일을 한 번에 볼 수 있어요.

For some reason it’s hard to find art exhibitions in Suwon. So, after going to Jidong Mural Village(지동 벽화마을) we stopped in at this small gallery in Haenggung-dong Mural Village, Alternative Space Noon(대안공간 눈). The building is painted beautifully with its own murals and inside there are 4 small exhibition rooms, so although it’s not large it does display a variety of different collections.

Went to the seoul international book fair and got new books to read once i finish 미움 받을 용기. Found 지적 대화를 위한 넓고 얕은 지식 thanks to the recommendations by @koreangrumblings and ttmik. I decided to get the second one because it includes philosophy and art, but not sure if that’s a good choice because the whole point of studying more is that i need to build vocab on subjects im Not interested not those that i already know. Ive only flipped through it but it looks like a challenging read. I hope its not too difficult. I know nothing about the other book i just picked it up because it looked interesting at the stall, ive been wanting to read some korean feminism, and i wanted the free bag they were giving away with it 👍

korean scholarships

so this is the thing: not too long ago, Korea University came to my country with a new scholarship program open for Mexico at that time, they are offering scholarships that go from 100% of tuition + monthly pay to 50% of tuition and I find it a really great opportunity. The program is now open for everyone in Latin America or it doesn’t matter if you’re living in the us or any other country as long as you’re a native Spanish speaker because that’s their main interest.

the thing is not many have applied for the next semester so they’re worried and they could probably stop the program for future years. Personally, I can’t apply because I’m already applying for another program and I can’t do both lol so if you know someone, a friend or whoever please let them know! it’d really be a shame for us to loose this program since its sometimes hard to get noticed and even more by universities of that level. even if you’re younger, you can let someone else know so you can apply in the future! I know there aren’t many Spanish speakers around but I wanna help and spread this bc many people may not know.

From the verb 세다, this form indicates a calculated result. It is a colloquial expression. 

비싸게 산 셈이다 = I’d say we paid too much.
이 아파트는 값에 비해 넓은 셈이다 = (I’d say) this apartment is large, considering the price.
매일 학교에 가는 셈이다 = It’s almost as though I go to school every day.
서울서 이렇게 오래 살았으니, 이제 나의 고향은 서울이 되는 셈이구나 = I’ve lived in Seoul so long, it’s like it’s my hometown.

~ㄹ/을 셈이다 = plans to, intends to

나는 오전 중에 돌아 올 셈이었다 = I was planning on coming back before noon.너 앞으로 어떻게 할 셈이야? = What are you planning to do from now on?

So I personally love cooking. The food is one of the main reasons I began studying Korean. A lot of the Korean cooking shows are great sources, but are not subtitled, so here’s a quick list to help start you off!

썰다 – to chop 
네모꼴로 썰다 – to dice 
얇게 썰다 – to slice 
채를 썰다 – to julienne 
다지다 – to mince / finely chop 
볶다 – to stir-fry 
지지다 – to sauté / panfry 
튀기다 – to deep fry (think 감자 튀김 / french fries!)
부치다 – to fry, griddle 
끓다 – to boil 
굽다 – to to roast 
훈제되다 – to smoke (food)

First trip to 전라도,

First bamboo forest, First time meeting the parents

작년 4월에 처음으로 경기도 밖으로 나갔어요. 남자친구 부모님을  만나는 것도 처음이었어요. 광주에 가는 건 처음이라 뭐 할까 고민하다가 가까운 죽녹원(담양 대나무숲)으로 갔어요. 

엄청 더운 날이라서, 숲에 들어가 그늘에서 시원하게 산책하자고 했어요. 하지만 그렇지 않았어요. 딱 도착해서 뭔가 깨달았어요. 여기… 산인가? 여기 산이네. 더워 죽을 것 같았지만 결국 출발했어요.

Last May I travelled outside of Gyeonggido for the first time, and met my boyfriend’s parents. It was our first time in Gwangju so we didn’t really know what to do. In the end we decided to go the bamboo forest close by in Damyang(담양 죽녹원).

It was a scorching hot day, so we thought it would be nice to talk a walk in the cool shade of the forest. Alas that is not what we did. We realised it as soon as we arrived: Is this…. a mountain? It’s a mountain. The weather was so hot it felt like death, but we started off on our walk.
